Another new condiment to add to the list! I didn’t expect this whole eating oil free lifestyle to create a love for condiments…
I used to enjoy hummus somewhat periodically back in college. I never ate it on a regular basis, but definitely enjoyed it from time to time…For most, it seems to be a great healthy alternative for those who are trying to live a healthier lifestyle.
The unfortunate fact about hummus that’s store bought: Most is loaded with refined oil and often preservatives…
Refined oil sedates the gallbladder, creates a sludgy “tar” throughout the tissues in the body, and creates a state of chronic inflammation that most don’t even notice.
At this point, its finding alternative ways to still enjoy the foods of comfort & satisfy the soul.
In reality, I’m not a large eater, much more of a snacker. Having a jar of hummus with veggies near the water sounds like a great plan for this upcoming summer season 🙂 !

So, I’ve spent all this time talking about fermented foods, and posting fermented photos on my Instgram. The entire time of taking pictures and talking about these fabulous healing foods, a few subscribers have helped me realize that I don’t even have a basic step by step process for you to actually make your own batch! I love this method of fermentation because it literally requires such a small list of required fermenting ingredients 🙂

I had anotherpost in mind for this week, but this one felt more fitting since Mother’s Day was last Sunday.
Last Saturday after work, I knew I’d be traveling home to South Orange County where my mom lives. Its about an hour and a half away from Venice.
Knowing that I would be leaving my little humble abode with all of my personally prepared foods and quality drinking water, I knew I’d be bringing some of my preferred foods to prepare. Not only for myself, but for my sweet mamma too!
So, I left work 3 hours early (yes, I lovingly work on Saturdays…) to prepare for my drive down south. Packed up my car up with bags of fresh produce from my local co-op, my bird, and great jamz to accompany the awesome road trip. Not to mention my moms mothers day gifts! One of them being a new dehydrator, with bags of brazil nuts and apricots. These were for her first raw food & dehydrating experiment!
I’d only be gone for 24 hrs, but knew that I’d be making my kind of foods to showcase to my mom. You have to make something great in order for someone to want to break away from a more conventional diet. This was my goal. Continue reading
Over the past year or so, I’ve fallen in love with beans and rice. These two starches have become a great staple in my daily diet, meeting many of my dietary needs! When you put them together, they’re the perfect complete protein option for those of you who stick to a plant based diet. Even if you’re a carnivore, you’ll still love this delicious rice and bean bowl! Throw some seared meat on there if ya need 😉
When I originally started eating beans on a regular basis, I was pretty much sticking to the theme of Mexican style. With this elimination of processed oil business taking place in my diet, I’ve had to reevaluate some foods and meal planning in order to keep my pallet satisfied, yet curious. The unfortunate fact about these foods is that they offer no nutritional value. I’m not here to preach to you about fish sticks and tater tots, though.

Unfortunate fact about ketchup? Most often, ketchup is made with rotten tomatoes, using preservatives to coverup any rotten flavor. Yes.

Its a great option no matter if you’re on a Vegan, Vegetarian, Paleo, or a Keto diet. Modification with an animal protein option would go wonderful with this as well 🙂

Shopping for organic foods goes far beyond just “eating clean.”
In today’s world, it literally takes time and money to eat well by avoiding toxic foods in efforts to be healthy.
We’ve all heard people say, “Buy organic, its better for you!” Purchasing organic foods is a giant leap forward towards greater health, and greatly contributes to the elimination of toxins from flooding the tissues of the body.
The primary reason I (and most others that purchase organic) choose to purchase organic produce from the grocery store or farmers market is to avoid any risk of exposure to chemicals that may have been sprayed on or around my food in their growing environments. Our foods are LOADED with chemicals.
Yes, the more you purchase organic foods, the more you are committing to your health!
